Kieron hat Feierabend
Es ist vier Uhr dreiβig. Kieron hat Feierabend.
„Bis morgen!“ sagt er zu seinem Kollegen Robert, der noch weiter arbeitet.
„O.k. Hab‘ einen schönen Abend Kieron!“ antwortet Robert.
„Kieron läuft runter zum Mehring Damm und nimmt die U Bahn nach Tegel.“
Er fragt sich, ob Elaine ihn heute Abend anrufen wird.
Auf dem Nachhauseweg kauft er einen eine Boulette mit Pommes im Schnellimbiβ.
Er schaut sich die Nachrichten an, als das Telefon klingelt.
„Hallo Elaine! Was gibt es Neues?“
„Hallo Kieron, entschuldige, daβ ich dich schon wieder störe…“
„Kein Problem! Ich wollte dich auch gerad anrufen!“ lügt Kieron.
„Ich dachte, wir könnten morgen ins Kino gehen?“ fügt er vorsichtig hinzu.
„Gerne!“ sagt Elaine und freut sich. „Treffen wir uns um sieben vor dem Hohlen Zahn?“
„Gut. Dann bis morgen!“ sagt Kieron und legt auf.

Kieron finishes work / comes home from work
It’s four thirty. Kieron finishes work.
“See you tomorrow!” he says to Robert who continues working.
“Alright. Have a nice evening!” replies Robert.
Kieron walks to Mehring Damm and takes the underground train to Tegel.
He wonders if Elaine will call him tonight.
On the way home, he buys a beef burger and chips in a take away.
He is watching the news when the telephone rings.
“Hi Elaine! What’s up?”
“Hello Kieron, I am sorry to bother you again…”
“No problem. I wanted to ring you, too.” Lies Kieron.
“I thought we could go to cinema tomorrow?” he adds cautiously.
“I’d love to!” says Elaine happy. “Will we meet at seven at the cathedral?”
“Great! See you tomorrow then!” says Kieron and hangs up.

der Hohle Zahn – The Kaiser Wilhelm Gedächtniskirche is called by the older generation of Berlin people der Hohle Zahn. The church is located at Kudam in the city centre of Berlin. It was bombed during Wolrd War II and was left as a monument to remember after war. It resembles in its shape a tooth that has lost its filling or crown (hohl – unfilled, empty inside). The church is not far from Bahnhof Zoo (“Have you seen the iconic movie Die Kinder vom Bahnhof Zoo?”), the zoological garden, the aquarium and a vast shopping area as well as cinemas and theatres.
Mehring Damm is a busy street and underground station in Berlin Tempelhof, close to a well known area with alternative coffee shops and night life (Bergmann Straβe). Two of the underground lines, the U7 and U6, are crossing here. The U7 is coming from Rudow (connected by bus to the airport Schönefeld) and is going to Altstadt-Spandau, an area which was more than 750 years ago a city on its own and which has preserved an individual town character. The U6 however comes from Alt-Mariendorf and goes to Tegel, the older airport of Berlin.
